Daily Diary

15 November 2011: Three. More. Sleeps. I fee like a kid on rollerblades who hasn't figured out how to stop and has just launched themselves down the steepest hill in town....
---------------
Day 14 = Happy Antarctica Day, everyone!

Day 13 = Shackleton's Whiskey for the Antarctica trip bought! Plan to crack it open on the ice for Christmas

Day 12 = Perhaps the day when the media sees a need to appoint 'Antarctic Correspondents' is closer than we think?

Day 11 = The revelation that not everyone sees Antarctica like NZers do: the 'ours' or 'noones' mentality makes a huge difference to how the resources and politics of the continent are approached
---------------

Days 8/9/10 = Epic trip to Cass! Standing in a real Rita Angus painting, climbing Bealey spur, (somewhat) intelligent conversation = heaps of fun

Day 7 = Bernadette Hall on poetry and landscapes of the imagination, BEST hour of the course EVER

Day 6 = My search term 'women on ice' is bringing up all sorts of articles about IVF conception...
Not exactly what I had in mind for a review of Gender Issues in Antarctica ><

---------------

Day 5 = oceonography and thermodynamics and finding out that there are carnivourous ducks that feast on seal carcasses!

Day 4 = Real Antarctic blizzard simulation, -8 degrees with windchill of -18. Just like being in a shampoo ad except somewhat chillier!

Day 3 = new bicycle and flat tyre :( Also = decision on lit review topic and practice run quiz night at the local pub :D

Day 2 = engaging discussion on european politics with my flatmates the italian, the austrian, the norwegian and the kiwi. Plus my room is massive! Score!

Day 1 of this icy adventure = sunburnt ><
